Woman goes to shelter to adopt a dog, realizes 250 live among rats and takes action

Some people have hearts made out of pure gold. This woman is one of those people – there is nothing she would not do to help an animal in need. When she heard about a shelter that was in a terrible state, she did everything she could to help out. You’ll never guess how she helped these poor dogs find new hope.

Danielle Eden is passionate about helping dogs. She is one of the founders of Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary, a shelter located in King City, Ontario. Dog Tales was originally founded in Israel, where the owners helped to rescue their first dogs. Ever since then, the organization has sought out new ways to help dogs in desperate circumstances.

The founders frequently visit Israel, where they find homes for the dogs who need the most help. On a recent trip to Israel, the crew discovered something heartbreaking – a shelter in absolutely horrific condition. Over 250 dogs were crowded together into tiny cages and forced to fight each other for food. Live and dead rats decorated the floor. The situation looked bleak. Luckily, Dog Tales stepped in just in time.

Danielle was particularly distraught by the discovery of this scant shelter. She realized that in this situation they would not be able to select only the neediest dogs to help – every dog desperately needed her compassion. In the heat of the moment, the team knew what they had to do. They made a huge decision that would affect the lives of hundreds of dogs.

The founders decided to purchase the entire shelter. They took responsibility for every last dog. 90 of the dogs were relocated to other shelters in Israel, where they could more comfortably wait for their happy homes. Dog Tales brought 25 dogs with them back to Canada, where half of the dogs have already been adopted.

They couldn’t relocate all of the dogs, but Dog Tales drastically improved the Israeli shelter so it could adequately house the animals it sought to help. This group has made a huge impact on the lives of hundreds of dogs, and this is only the beginning.

Dog Tales is continuing to work in Canada as a refuge for neglected dogs. They identify their property as a “picturesque location – complete with kilometers of walking trails, therapy pools, and a grooming spa,” making it an ideal space “for abused and neglected animals to heal and be rehabilitated while they wait for forever homes.” You can find out more about their powerful mission on their website.

The founders of Dog Tales are an inspiration to dog lovers everywhere. This is a group of people who have made it their mission to help animals in any way they can. Their efforts encourage us to do more to help animals in our own community.
