Just a few miles outside of Charleston, South Carolina, a huge alligator was caught on camera at the Caw Caw Interpretive Center. The park staff had set up a wildlife trail camera (that turns on when it sense motion) and decided to let it record during the night. But when an alligator tripped the signal, the viewers could not believe as they watched it’s body keep going and going and going across the screen – the alligator was massive and a huge threat to anyone who wanted to visit the park. Throughout the nearly 30 second video, the huge alligator, which some are calling the biggest in South Carolina, slowly marched through the video – directly in front of the camera. When you see the video below, at first you’ll wonder what you’re looking at. The alligator is so big and so close to the lens that it blocks out the entire screen. Yes, this alligator is a threat to people…
Caw Caw Interpretive Center is located off Highway 17 in Ravenel. The location was once part of a rice plantation, but now is a public park that welcomes all visitors. It has about six miles of trails that link the picturesque locale with other wetlands, forests and natural sights in South Carolina.
But now that people know what kind of monster is lurking in the shadows, Caw Caw Interpretive Center has seen a decline in visitors. No one wants to get caught up in a tussle with that giant alligator.
In the clip, the large gator lumbers across the screen like it isn’t afraid of anything. And what does it have to be afraid of? The only thing in South Carolina that would pose a real threat to it would be a human with a hunting rifle or a speeding vehicle. So long as it stays off the road, this gator isn’t going anywhere.
As you can imagine, this video footage has caused a stir on social media. Caw Caw posted it to their Facebook page and it went viral.
Hundreds of people shared the video and added their own comments including:
“it seems like the [gator] is in a real HURRY? I thought it was a suspense video that creates excitement while waiting for somebody to come out,” wrote on user.
“Close up does that, to thing. Make it look bigger then it is….”
“Oh my god it’s Godzilla.”
“It was big enough to scare a deer in he background take a look at the shadows.”
“So that’s where the Loch Ness monster got to!!”
“Up close and personal with Big Poppa, as my husband and I have dubbed him. He was laying ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE PATH one day on our final stretch. We walked the whole way around the park again so as not to disturb him. He was fierce!”
What would you do if you came face to face with an alligator as big as this one that terrorized Caw Caw Interpretive Center in South Carolina?
