Obesity is a one of the lifestyle diseases and it affects about 20% of population.
There are more and more obese people and there is little hope for the statistics to get better in the near future. Food rich in calories and lack of exercise are the main causes of gaining weight. It makes us not only less attractive but also less healthy. It has been proved that overweight people more often suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney diseases and arteriosclerosis. Some people fight their obesity and want to lose weight at all costs, the other however believe that a few additional pounds is not a problem and they keep on eating fast food.
Australia is one of the countries with the highest rate of obesity in population. Almost 25% of Australians suffer from the obesity caused by a diet high in carbohydrates and sweet snacks. In 2014 Australia was on the 15th place among “ the fattest nations in the word”.
And Australia was the country where the historic childbirth, put in the Guinness Book of Records, took place. The baby was huge. Go to the next page to read more.
A morbidly obese woman in the final stage of pregnancy was admitted to King Edward’s Hospital in Perth. She and the baby weighted almost 600 lb. (272 kg)! Because of her weight she couldn’t walk on her own. The doctors were completely unprepared for such a delivery. They expected complications and they had no information about the baby’s condition, as the woman was never examined by a gynecologist. Her stomach was enormous and the doctors thought, at first, that there was more than one baby to be born.
As there was no time for long consideration, they decided to take action immediately. Natural delivery was of course impossible. A C-section was performed and they pull out a 39 lb. (18,1 kg) baby! It looked like a 1-year-old and the doctors and nurses were speechless. Fortunately, the procedure was successful and the mother and the baby are well.
I have dealt with many women with obesity problem but this delivery was special. First I expected twins or triplets but then I realized that it was only one big and strong kid. He is likely to be a rugby player in the future – said the doctor with a smile.
What is interesting, the grandmother of the child didn’t know that her daughter was pregnant. Only after talking to the doctor she realized that she would have a grandchild
The previous record was a baby born in 1839 in Africa. The baby weighed less, about 37 lb. (17.1 kg). The successor is now in the Guinness Book of Records and we are looking forward to a new record!
